Up and Down

Balance heavily over the raging whirlpools of melted snow

Littered with flecks of frayed moss cheering

Palm sized stones who proceed in haste down the hill

Intent on their timely arrival for Sol’s brilliant finale

Wonder cautiously before an imposing, sharp

Tigerskin boulder motionless

Draped in a blue shawl of light and air and gravity

Crowded root and clay dutifully squeeze wet sunshine past dry lips

Evading hapless bears engrossed in their high holiday

Behold heartily a gracious invitation ten degrees higher up the mount

Evergreen lean inward gaily hushed in songs of jubilee

Wrinkled granite strokes the sky just at the doorstep of daybreak merely

Intent on teaching raindrops how to find their way home to sea and cloud

Your footprint longs for ground
